The Shakers of Community Medical Foundation are gearing up to host another evening of food, fun and fundraising as they “Go Global,” featuring food, drinks and vacations from around the world. This year’s spring event will be held at Fresno City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on April 26.

Community Regional has the only round-the-clock, fully staffed burn center between Los Angeles and Sacramento. In 2007 alone, the burn center performed more than 9,600 burn therapy procedures and nearly half of those treated were children. Burn injuries are one of the leading causes of hospitalization and death for children in the Central Valley.
“We currently only have one pediatric crib,” said registered nurse Sandra Yovino, manager of burn and pediatric services. “Without the new additional crib, we are required to use a crib that is over 10 years old.”
The new Cub Pediatric Crib developed by Stryker has a number of new features including unobstructed access to the child, a warm friendly appearance just like the cribs from home and hydraulics that allow it to be raised to the level of the staff and family members. One of the greatest improvements is a scale feature that can accurately weigh the child while in the crib.
“The children now have to be taken off the bed and moved to a portable scale,” Yovino said. “This change will provide much greater patient safety.”
The Shakers represent a broad range of local businesses and industries all of whom regularly donate their time. Last year’s “A Night in Hollywood” event raised nearly $30,000 for the trauma and burn center.
“Our mission is to raise money for those less fortunate than ourselves,” said Rick Reinhardt, president of the Shakers. “Seeing those patients, adults and kids, it gives you tingles as you walk through there.”
Reinhardt said the event is open to the public and will be an evening filled with culture right here in Fresno, including live music and a silent auction. Local Valley restaurants will be showcasing cuisine from Mexico, Italy, Japan and beyond.
“It is an honor to have the Shakers work on behalf of the burn center,” Yovino said. “It is amazing the compassion this group of volunteers have shown over the past years.”
Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased through the foundation. For more information call (559) 459-2670.
