Just after the move, Dr. Synn, the fertility center’s medical director, declared, “The lab itself is performing fabulously. We are seeing embryo quality that is measurably better than in the past. We’re getting better fertilization rates and better embryo cleavage rates, more vigorous growth. I’m looking forward to better outcomes for our patients.”
It’s too soon to quantify the higher success rates. Dr. Synn won’t know about successful pregnancies for some time, but he has high hopes. “What we’re able to do for patients is literally a miracle.”
The Valley’s only Level III – the highest possible accreditation – fertility center had been located at Community Regional for more than two decades, but moved to larger quarters at Clovis Community this fall.
Laboratory equipment, incubators and cryogenic storage were upgraded and space was added for patients to recover from procedures. And embryologist Elisabet Subias joined the surgical staff to assist Dr. Synn and Dr. Carlos Sueldo in reproductive procedures for both male and female patients.
“Fortunately we had space at the Clovis hospital to build out the lab and recovery in a place that’s strictly for our patients,” Dr. Synn said. “That goes a long way to helping patients relax during the procedure.”
Dr. Synn said he’s had some repeat patients who have commented on the difference. He has the same program and essentially the same staff of experienced clinicians, fertility specialists, nurses and an embryologist. But patients have found Clovis easier to get to and find parking. Plus, they like being at the hospital with the reputation as the premier birthing center in the Valley.
“The Clovis experience has been very, very pleasant for them,” said Dr. Synn. “My patient population is much more comfortable here. They’re universally happy with the new accommodations.”
Dr. Synn, one of California’s leading obstetrics/gynecologists and fertility specialists sees patients from all over California and from as far away as Chile and China. The Community Fertility Center is located on the second floor of the Clovis Outpatient Surgical Center and offers several assisted reproductive technologies as well as in-vitro fertilization.
