Women’s Festival open to public

Women from across the Valley are invited to join the 2nd annual “LiveBetter” Women’s Festival on the scenic grounds of Clovis Community Medical Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m on Oct. 6.

Open to the public and free of charge, this event features demonstrations ranging from pregnancy tips to plastic surgery trends. It includes seminars on stress management, interior design and self defense techniques.

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Clovis Community brings this event to women and their families to participate in medical, home and art seminars. It also offers breast cancer survivors and loved ones an opportunity to honor their strength and inspiration through a special ceremony.

A highlight of the day features Dr. Susan Barrows, board-certified radiologist at the Marjorie E. Radin Breast Care Center at Clovis Community, talking about digital mammography and the future of breast cancer. Barrows is just one of 18 medical experts who will be on hand to answer valuable questions.

“Digital mammography is technologically superior to film-screen exams, more comfortable for the patient and no lost films because the exam is stored on the computer,” Dr. Barrows said. “The equipment includes software that ‘reads’ the mammogram, like a radiologist; like a second pair of eyes to improve detection of subtle findings. So, early detection means earlier stage and a much better prognosis.”

The Radin Center's unique approach involves a team of physician specialists in one location to make it convenient for patients.

“This saves time as well as giving the patient access to state-of-the-art-treatment,” she said.

Tours of the Radin Center begin at 9 a.m. on Oct. 6 and run every half hour until 3 p.m.

“It’s a fun break from laundry and the dishes; we all deserve a treat,” Dr. Barrows said.

Clovis Community encourages everyone to bring their mothers, daughters, sisters, co-workers and friends to this free, unique festival. Along with seminars, the event will offer a complimentary breakfast and lifestyle exhibits.
